Every good map has a legend. Here is mine:

KLICK

/klick/
  noun    INFORMAL
         a kilometer

On a white marble table, accompanied by a cup of coffee, sits my open sketch book. On it, I've painted and sketched my vision board for this site: a watercolour hot air balloon to represent travel, coniferous forest representing "local" section, polaroid images representing gallery, and a lightbulb with koi fish inside representing academics. The words "one more klick" are stamped in black between these images.

A klick represents a photograph taken. In this section, I share the stories behind my photographs. I also share personal insight on travelling, tips & tricks, and stories of my own (as opposed to the subject of the photograph). In my vision board, this section is represented by a hot air balloon – an imaginative, light, and colourful depiction of travelling.

A klick is also a unit of measurement. I explore the klick as a literal distance travelled, as well as a metaphorical way of always pushing myself further and trying something new. As a visual aid, I like to add a map of the city, town, or region that I’m referring to.

We are incredibly lucky to be living in such a beautiful, natural environment. In this section, I plan to take advantage of this great Pacific Northwest as I explore my local surroundings and document my adventures. I am challenging myself to spend more time outdoors and explore my home. As a result, I plan to write about local hikes, hidden gems, and weekend getaways.

G A L L E R Y

I came to realize that I was lacking a space to display my photography. I had long resisted jumping on the Instagram bandwagon; only recently have I succumbed to it, and have recognized its inevitable use in getting visual media out there, on a platform with over 100 million users to praise and critique your work. I will be using this gallery section as an online portfolio to display my work.
